Healthy Eating Seminar Series

This Fall season, The Mount will be hosting a series of healthy eating seminars focused on the benefits of supporting and consuming local food. The series will enlist the help of local farmers, gardeners, and food producers and will demonstrate how local foods can be used to make quick, easy, and healthy dishes. The Healthy Eating Seminar Series will be open to the public, however, space is limited! Seminars will be held weekly on Mondays in The Mount’s Activity Room at 9:30 AM, from September 14 – December 7.

This project has been made possible via the support of the Government of Prince Edward Island through the 2015 PEI Wellness Strategy Grant Initiative and through the 2015 Seniors Secretariat Grant Initiative.

Yard Sale and BBQ at the mount

On Saturday, September 12, The Mount will be hosting a Yard Sale and BBQ from 8:00 Am - Noon. Items will include furniture, crafting supplies, books, CDs, videos, puzzles, and more! The BBQ will begin at 10 Am. Bring family and friends!

Tree Planting Ceremony

The Mount is getting an orchard! A portion of The Mount's acreage will be used to grow varieties of apple and pear, which will be used in the community's kitchen. Once they are producing fruit, we hope to host a number of U-Picks throughout the warmer seasons. The first trees of our orchard touched soil on July 10, 2015. The Mount's Garden Patio

Construction on The Mount's garden patio is now complete! The garden patio project was funded, in part, by the city of Charlottetown through the Community Sustainability Micro-Grant Program. The patio gives residents, and their friends and family, a space to relax and socialize outside. The space is wheelchair accessible, and features wall planters that will be used to grow flowers, herbs, and spices!

Book Launch: "This I Know", By michael Pendergast

On Monday, June 1st, The Mount will be hosting the launch of Michael Pendergast's picture book entitled, "This I Know". The book launch will take place in the Chapel at 6:30 PM. All are Welcome!

"This I Know" is a song that Michael wrote after the death of his father Reg nine years ago. The words are a spiritual reflection on death and dying. Turning the song into a book has been a labour of five years and involves a Newfoundland illustrator named Joanne Snook-Hans. Her hand drawn illustrations are beautiful representations of light and hope and serve perfectly to capture the sense and sentiment of the words.
This publication is not only a memorial to a loved one, but will also serve as an ongoing fundraiser for the PEI chapter of Hospice and the good works that they do. All proceeds from Michael's sales will go to Hospice or related charities. The June 1st launch will include a small concert of appropriate songs with some stories to accompany them. There will be no admission charge, but donations will be accepted for Hospice.

Grand Opening at the mount

Lady On the CBC

The Mount's very own resident companion dog, Lady, was featured on the Charlottetown CBC. 
We are glad to see her recognized for the sweetheart she is!

Sunday Evening Ceilidh

The Mount is hosting a Ceilidh on January 11, 2015!
Entertainers include: Tim Archer, Judee Patterson, Frank Whitty, Jason Campbell, Fenton MacSwain, Millie MacDonald, Hazel St. Amand, and Dianne Adams.
Doors open at 6PM. There will be refreshments, a 50/50 draw, and two door prizes!

Art Classes at the Mount

Art classes at The Mount begin on Tuesday January 6, 2015, from 1:30-3:30 -- free to seniors through the Learning Elders Arts Program (LEAP). Under the tutelage of Island Artist, Susan Christensen, participants will learn tonal painting, colour mixing, and how to bring their acrylic painting to completion. Community School at The Mount

A new 10 week long Community School begins at The Mount in 2015. Registration and classes begin on, Monday January 5, from 1-3pm. Workshops are open to all ages and include healthy living, storytelling, cards & table games, arts & crafts, advanced Ukelele and a book club.
