The Mount Continuing Care Community is currently seeking a full-time Director of Nursing for our long-term care facility in Charlottetown, PEI. This position reports to the director of operations and assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in our continuing care community.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in nursing from a recognized University - Minimum two years of supervisory or Director of Nursing experience in long-term care - Meets registration requirements, or is currently registered with the Association of Registered Nurses of Prince Edward Island
Main responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies that are in accordance with current standards of nursing practice, facility operational policies, while maintaining compliance with provincial and federal regulations. - Promotes effective communication to staff, residents , and community about the program and services offered, as well as the organizations goals and objectives. - Assist in the interview and selection process for all nursing care staff and has the authority to hire, evaluate, or terminate as necessary. - Participates in all admissions decisions and consults with residents and families through the resident care planning process. - Supervises and plans for the efficient use of facility supplies, medication, equipment and staff within the health care budget.
Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies that are in accordance with current standards of nursing practice, facility operational policies, while maintaining compliance with provincial and federal regulations. 2. Promotes effective communication to staff, residents, and community about the programs and services offered, as well as the organizations goals and objectives. 3. Assumes responsibility for the selection of nursing care staff with the authority to hire, evaluate, or terminate as necessary. 4. Provides useful developmental feedback, and develops a plan with employees to address staff performance and resolve issues. 5. Provides direction and support to staff in their daily physical, psychological and social care of residents. 6. Supervises and plans for the efficient use of facility supplies, medication, equipment and staff within the nursing department's budget. 7. Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, etc. for both residents and department personnel. 8. Participates in all admissions decisions and consults with residents and families through the resident care planning process. 9. Participates in management meetings to discuss a residence status, department personnel, and any resident concerns or, and other operational aspects as seen necessary. 10. Maintains current knowledge of trends and issues within the health care field, and management domain and recommends changes in policies and procedures, equipment, and programs/services based on this knowledge. 11. Supports an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may lead to an unsafe or adverse situation. 12. Ensure risk management activities take place to reduce and control potential or actual risks to the safety, security and health of all individuals and to the safety and security of the facility. 13. Meet all required standards of resident confidentiality and privacy. 14. Ensure residents are treated with dignity and respect and residents rights are maintained. 15. Responds to and adequately resolves incidents, complaints, or concerns from residents or families about health care services, in accordance with legislation and standards. 16. Must be committed to providing the highest quality of care guided by our core values; respect, compassion, and hospitality. 17. Works with all physicians and in accordance with physician’s instructions administers the necessary orders and treatment. 18. Establishes a compassionate environment and promote patient- centered care by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to residents and families. 19. Promotes resident independence by establishing resident care goals; teaching and counseling residents, friends, and family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills. 20. Must have transfer, lifting, and repositioning (TLR) training and be able to provide support and educate health care staff in TLR. 21. Maintain and update resident’s medical records. 22. Must be able to maintain a professional relationship and collaborate with other allied health care professionals including physiotherapist, dentist, audiologist, and pharmacist. 23. Promote community involvement by encouraging the ongoing participation of volunteers, social groups, families, and friends in the daily lives of residents. 24. Designs schedules which ensure required number, distribution, and qualifications of staff for 24 hour care. 25. Provides a direction to the staff about infection and communicable disease prevention and control. 26. Assumes responsibility of the nursing home operation in the absence of the administrator (as per regulations, formally delegate duties if gone for more than four weeks) 27. Provides direction to management regarding nursing service. 28. Other duties as required.
