The Mount Continuing Care Community is currently seeking a PERM Full-Time Red Seal Chef for our new long-term care facility in Charlottetown, PEI. This position reports to the Nutrition Services Manager and assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of dietary services in our continuing care community.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Grade 12 equivalency.
Considerable experience an asset.
Completion of related post-secondary training an asset.
Red Seal Chef Certification.
Up-to-date Food Safety, WHMIS, and CPR certificates or able to obtain.
Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people.
Ability to work as a team member and ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
Proof up-to-date vaccinations and a satisfactory criminal record check.
Ability to make plans to attend shifts during inclement weather.
Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of staff preparing, portioning and serving food.
Work with the Nutrition Services Manager to ensure the department operates in a food safe manner. Identifying and correcting any imminent food safety concerns immediately.
Receive and check food orders for quality and identify damaged or expired food products.
Stock food and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and in accordance with the food safety policy.
Estimate food requirements and maintain inventory of food and supplies (Nutrition Services Manager to verify orders).
Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods.
Prepare and cook special meal items for residents as instructed by the dietitian (ie, gluten free, lactose free, modified textures, or products without specific allergens). Supervise special meal preparation if completed by the prep cook.
Provide friendly and quality meal service to residents, clients, guests, and staff.
Serve complete meals or individual dishes and foods according to portion guidelines.
Demonstrate proper portion size to dietary service workers.
Follow the menu plan for food production.
Complete food safety records and other records, as required.
Train staff in job duties, sanitation, and food safety procedures.
Other duties as required.

Wage: Beginning wage $19.60-$19.75 per hour, depending on experience and certification.
Please note the shifts are 6:30 am - 6 pm and includes every other weekend.
