Title: Activities Assistant
Reports To: Activities Coordinator
At a glance: The Mount is a unique care facility in Charlottetown that prioritizes meaningful engagement with the greater community, an emphasis on an enhanced quality of life, and regular integration of intergenerational connections. The Mount prides itself in providing innovative, evidence-based care and programming to its community care, long-term care, and dementia care residents. The full-time Activities Assistant will work with the Activities Director in developing and delivering life-enriching experiences and high-quality, evidence-based therapeutic recreation programming to our residents. In collaboration with the care team, they will ensure that each resident's physical, social, mental, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs are met. The Activities Assistant will be directly mentored and supervised by the Activities Director, allowing the role to be individualized according to the applicant's unique strengths, goals, and life experiences. Main responsibilities may include:
Participate in developing, preparing, and implementing resident activities that are in accordance with provincial and federal regulation, facility standards, therapeutic recreation best practice, and the changing needs & preferences of our residents.
Creatively modify activities to accommodate varying needs, abilities, and interests within a resident group using adaptive equipment and/or improvisation skills.
Assist with routine documentation, reporting, and progress evaluations pertaining to general programming and each resident’s psycho-social and spiritual wellbeing.
Provide companionship & 1:1 programming according to residents’ individual care plans. Activities Assistant may also assist in conducting assessments to identify emerging psychosocial and spiritual needs.
Provide bedside therapeutic activities and basic end-of-life (palliative) support in collaboration with the allied healthcare team, as directed.
Assisting with the coordination and execution of resident outings.
Assist in planning, coordinating, and hosting community events and campaigns.
Assist in developing and distributing in-house communication tools such as monthly activity calendars, event posters, and newsletters for residents & families.
Assist with the acquisition of funding and donations through writing grant proposals, letters of request, community outreach, etc.
Assist with bookings and scheduling of transportation, entertainment, and in-house salon appointments.
Assist with volunteer recruitment & training.
Assist in promoting up-to-date and evidence-based resources and learning opportunities for residents and their families.
Additional responsibilities as assigned, to be determined according to the successful applicant’s unique interests, goals, and skill set.

Willingness to engage in continuing education opportunities to continually integrate innovative and evidence-based approaches into our care.
Proficiency with Canva and Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
Prior knowledge of Montessori Principles and/or the Person-Centred Care philosophy is considered an asset.
Preferred Experience:
Preference given to applicants with post-secondary education in a related subject area (therapeutic recreation, human services, psychology, gerontology, etc.) and/or relevant lived experience.
Experiences in event planning, leading group activities, or working with seniors and/or people living with dementia are considered assets.
Other Requirements
Valid criminal record check (with vulnerable sector check)
CPR/First Aid
Dementia care training (will be provided by employer)
Valid driver’s license is an asset.
