The Mount Continuing Care Community is currently seeking a Casual Cook for our new long-term care facility in Charlottetown, PEI. This position reports to the Dietary Service Supervisor and assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of dietary services in our continuing care community.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: • Grade 12 equivalency. • Completion of related post-secondary training an asset. • Safe food handling course, CPR, and WHMIS. • Ability to work as a team member and ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
Main responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Check food products and ingredients for quality and identify damaged or expired food products. • Stock food and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and in accordance with food safety policy. • Estimate food requirements and maintain inventory of food and supplies (Nutrition Services Manager to verify orders). • Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods. • Prepare and cook special meal items for residents as instructed by the dietitian (ie, gluten free, lactose free, or products without specific allergens). • Provide friendly and quality meal service to residents, their loved ones, and staff. • Serve complete meals or individual dishes and foods according to portion guidelines. • Demonstrate proper portion size to dietary service workers. • Following the menu plan for food production. • Complete food safety records and other records, as required. • Clean utensils, equipment, kitchen, storage, and work area. • Use equipment properly and responsibly to promote sustainability of equipment. Report any maintenance or safety concerns. • May set up and oversee dining area. • Provide input for menu plan • Follow all sanitation and infection control procedures. • Evaluate prepared foods for flavour, appearance, quality, and temperature. • Participate in relevant continuing education sessions offered by the workplace. • Effectively manage time to meet production requirements. • May train kitchen staff. • Other duties as required.
